
The stomach virus is the least of her problems. And, her guilt over letting Marco, an ex-best friend recently gained, copy off her math. And, her ex-best friend who is purposely flaunting her burgeoning romance with Hayley's crush.

In this installment, she is trying, unsuccessfully, to deal with her father dating a much younger woman. Hayley and her family live above a tea and cake shop, the result of her parent's recent divorce. What really sets this apart, though, is the solid storyline and plot. The formatting of the book, with a recipes for unique cupcake at the end of each chapter, is fun. The covers are fantastic and eye-catching.

(Fun fact: The recipes were created by the author's sister, Zo Recipes for cupcakes, frosting, and other baked goods are sprinkled throughout the books. But more importantly, this series has just the right mix of ingredients for tween readers: a thoughtful, considerate protagonist, distinct characters, each with their own flavor, fun times, steady pacing, and a pinch of secrets. If you have a sweet tooth, you'll probably wish that Michael Frost's photo covers were as edible as the wallpaper in Willy Wonka's factory. All the while, Hayley continues to enjoy baking, whipping up batches of cupcakes at home and in her grandmother's café, The Tea Room. Meanwhile, watching her divorced parents date other people is even stranger. Lisa Papademetriou's sweet series Confectionately Yours continues in book #2, Taking the Cake! Hayley is having a hard enough time figuring out whether or not her ex-best friend Artie is still her friend, but when the two girls have a crush on the same guy, it makes things even more confusing.
